Successful viral marketing on Twitter is not as simple as many assume, however, with the right guidelines and steps, it can be done and bring about a rewarding outcome!

Therefore, for today’s post, I will be sharing you 5 simple steps to going viral on Twitter:

1. Call on Action:

Don’t take retweeting, or lack of it, lightly. An RT is a way to show your Twitter friends and followers that you care about them and about the content they share with you. If retweeting is the action you wish your readers to take, the best way to persuade people to do it is to motivate them to by asking or offering incentives. When tweeps retweets your content, they’re very likely to also repost your call to action, lending it their credibility and influence.

2. Timing is King:

There is a window of time during which sharing on Twitter occurs more often so you should keep an eye on the following:

  • The first few days of the business week.
  • Monday through Wednesday (weekends are usually slower).

3. Links Rule:

Almost 70% of all retweets contain a link. Therefore, if you want to spread your off-Twitter content, you should make sure that you do utilize links in your tweets. When thinking of posting any type of content or reading material on Twitter, the most important thing to consider is your headline and it value. Your headline is more of a promise than a “catch phrase” thus a good headline promises some kind of benefit or reward in exchange for attention. That reward could range from an amusing diversion to the solution to a pressing problem.

One of the best ways which you could utilize to guarantee that your headlines always offer a compelling “reward” is to use the 4-U approach:

Your headlines must:

  1. Be USEFUL to the reader,
  2. Provide him/her with a sense of URGENCY,
  3. Convey the idea that the main benefit is somehow UNIQUE; and
  4. Do all of the above in an ULTRA-SPECIFIC way.

Ever wondered why you are not benefiting from Twitter as others are? Ever wondered where you have been going wrong? If so, this is the right post for you! Today we will be giving you 5 tips for success on Twitter that are easy to apply and have proven to be effective with many throughout their Twitter usage (and mine as well):

1. Repeat Your Tweets:

Many tweeps fear that repeating tweets every now and then could get them unfollowed in the long run. However, and from personal experience, I can assure you otherwise and that it is alright to repeat tweets every now and then in order to make sure that your Twitter friends end up seeing them (especially since many Twitter streams might be flooded with tweets and might simply miss yours).

2. Stay Upbeat & Positive:

Although you might not want to believe this, but no one likes drama, badmouthing or plain negativity. This doesn’t mean that you should be something you are not but with every tweet you have a choice. Be positive or stay away.

3. Test Your Tweet Times:

Tweets must always be planned based on where you are and what your time zone is. Therefore, it is important to test your tweet times. This can be achieved  using multiple bit.ly or ow.ly short URLs and via testing tweeting at different times of day. Some people think that it is easy to get retweets on Twitter. Trust me when I tell you: it’s NOT! More often than not, unless you are famous – a celebrity, singer, company, actor, politician and so on – your tweets might get lost in the tide!

So, from my experience on Twitter, here are 10 valuable tips which can help you increase the number of retweets you get on Twitter:

1. Make Your Tweets Count!

First and most importantly, you should always invest in your tweets. Your tweets are a reflection of who you are on Twitter so you should make them valuable and interesting enough to RT.

2. Choose Your Followers Carefully:

In case you haven’t realized it yet, you may have thousands of followers yet get a few retweets on your blog posts or in your mentions. If you are wondering why, remember that quality always comes before quantity. So, make sure the tweeps you want to follow are active on Twitter.

3. Don’t Be Selfish!

It is only natural that you should treat others like you want to be treated, this applies to Twitter as well. If you want others to retweet you, make sure you retweet others as well!

I found it very useful to tweet my gratitude for the retweets I get every now and then. Showing your appreciation make a lot of difference and encourages tweeps to support you by retweeting you more often.
